Providing for an increased demand

Tackling the demand for these macronutrients is already taking place. For instance, protein demand has increased to about 365 million tonnes with such plant proteins as pea and soy seen as the best way of satisfying this rising demand. Among such sources of protein as eggs, dairy, soy and beef and their per acreage farming, it’s now clear soy is on top of the list; for every acre 162 kilograms of protein are produced, while protein per acre for beef stands at 9 kilograms.

Science and technology is also expected to influence the increase of essential nutrients such as Omega 3 fatty acids. Common omega 3 fatty acids sources include seeds, nuts and fish, known for its huge benefits in boosting the brain and heart health. As such, advances in technology are currently being enhanced to boost fatty acids production from such sources as algae, to give huge populations the chance to boost their health through a very sustainable and renewable source.

Essentially, recommendation for better nutrition today includes balancing in a healthy way carbohydrates, protein and fat macronutrients including minerals and vitamins. It is believed in the next few decades the focus will be largely on friendly bacteria’s role, in particular its effect in the overall nutrition and gut health.

Fibre also plays an important role in ensuring the gut remains healthy by ensuring the nutrition is adequate not only for the gut flora but the body as well.
